Golf Tips & Instruction

It all starts with correct ball contact.
For the moment we will eliminate putting, bunkers and driving so we can say all other shots are struck the same. The ball is contacted BEFORE the ground. Certain situations, such as shots from the rough, there will be some grass between the club face and ball but the thought and the attempt should be the same. Hit down on the ball and try to contact it before the ground. This how the ball gets up in the air. It is done with backspin not lift. The loft of the club will create the backspin.
This skill is best learned around the green. Chipping and pitching will help the player learn to contact the ball correctly. Chipping, in my opinion, is THE most important skill to learn in golf. If a player can hit a crisp chip shot with some loft, backspin and distance control the full golf swing is just a larger version. The club head travels downward to the ball, contacts it first, then hits the turf while turning to the left (for a right handed player).
Learn proper ball contact and the golf ball can be under your control.
